Stories that need time.
EXO Visual Media produces short films, documentaries and experimental work out of the Ahrntal, South Tyrol, with directors and writers who bring the story. Concept, camera and edit stay with us, and the post-production is done for festivals.
What we mean by film
Commercial work has a job and a deadline. A film has a story, and a story sets its own pace. It needs time in development, time on location for the moment that cannot be scheduled, and time in the edit for the version that only shows up on the third pass.
We make these films for two reasons. They are the reason we do this, and they set the standard for everything else we shoot. A hotel spot from this studio looks the way it does because of the short films made in between.
How we work with directors and writers
A project can come to us with a script and a director, and we bring camera, light, sound and the edit. Or it starts as an idea in this room, and we develop, write and produce it ourselves. Co-production is possible in both directions.
Either way the director talks directly to the person holding the camera, and the same people stay on the project from the first draft to the final mix.
What you get
A finished film in 4K, colour graded and mixed, in the formats festivals ask for, with subtitles in German, Italian or English and a trailer for the release.
For a commissioned documentary, when a company or an institution wants a longer film about its people, the same applies, with a cut for the website and vertical excerpts for social media on top.
How it runs
It starts with a conversation about the story. Then a treatment, a schedule and a fixed written quote for the part that can be planned. The shooting days spread over the time the story takes, with a crew of one to three, depending on the shoot.
A short film with a finished script follows the four to eight weeks of our other projects. A documentary has its own schedule, and we set it together at the start rather than promise a date we cannot hold.
